Clinton City?Council voted last night to approve the awarding of the bids for the lighting at the 2 new parking lots located at Florida and Elizabeth streets and at Academy and Elizabeth streets. Because of the variety of equipment needed for the lighting, Council received bids from 3 different companies with 2 of the companies only bidding on a portion of the package and the other company bidding on the complete package. It was recommended to the Council that the lowest bid would be to purchase the poles, fixtures and anchor foundations from one company and the Pencel?P-10 boxes from another, for a grand total of $60,893. Councilman Bob McLean then asked if it would be against city policy to purchase all the equipment from the one company that had bid on the complete package. He noted it was only a difference of about $20. and said it would cost the city more than that in paperwork if they purchased the equipment from 2 companies. After a brief discussion it was concluded that this would not be against policy. A motion was approved to allow for the purchase of the entire package from Shealy?Electrical in Greenville for $60,913.
In other business, Clinton City Council approved 2nd?reading of an ordinance to allow for an increase in the city?s electrical utility rates by 8 and half tenths of a cent per kwh, along
with a 75 cent adjustment? to the base facilities charge. The average residential customer who uses approximately 903 kwh per month would see an increase of about $8.42 a month, raising the total from $126.65 to $135.07.
Council also passed second reading of an ordinance that would allow the city to include the Flood Insurance Rate Maps developed by FEMA. This was necessary in order for the citizens of the City of Clinton to be able to purchase any flood insurance? in the future and it does not effect the City budget in any way.
