About 2 out of every 10 children of school age have problems reading. While some of these cases are a result of dyslexia or other learning disabilities, a sizable percentage of kids with struggling to read possess completely fine phonetic awareness and language processing skills. Some of the specific vision abilities that are essential for learning include:
Tracking: a child?s capability to follow along a line of text utilizing fine eye movements. Children experiencing difficulties with tracking frequently get lost in text, skip words and have trouble comprehending what they read.
Convergence: the left and right eyes must be able to work together and focus on the same object reporting a single, focused image to the brain?s vision center. Approximately ten percent of young children suffer from eye teaming difficulties which can lead to double vision, blurry sight and fatigue. Convergence problems can be fixed by a qualified eye doctor.
Vision Perception : there are a variety of cognitive functions that involve the ability to give meaning to and decipher what is seen. Such skills include visual discrimination and spatial capabilities that are a prerequisite for differentiating between words, spelling and math abilities.
