Yahoo has acquired a small Beijing-based startup company that has developed technology to analyse social network data, reports the Wall Street Journal.
Ztelic employs just eight people and was founded by Hao Zheng only last year. Hao is a former Yahoo employee in China where worked as a chief software architect.
A Yahoo spokeswoman told the WSJ that Ztelic was a "small talent acquisition?, that would bring eight employees to Yahoo?s research and development team in Beijing.
She said Hao ?will play a critical leadership role in our Beijing global R&D centre.? He will split his time between that location and Yahoo?s Sunnyvale headquarters, the Yahoo spokeswoman said.
The value of the deal to acquire Ztelic has not been disclosed. Ztelic is the 19th acquisition for Yahoo under CEO Marissa Mayer, who only joined a year ago.
Most of these acquisitions have also been seen by Yahoo as talent acquisitions, although they also included the major captures of Tumblr, Xobni and Summly.
The latest acquisition marks a busy week for Yahoo. It posted higher quarterly profits on lower sales at the beginning of the week, and then went on to announce the acquisition of Admovate, which offers a technology to improve ad targeting on smartphones.
